• 82% of the children in one neighborhood served by Boys & Girls Clubs of Blue Ridge receive free school lunches everyday. (Source: Virginia Department of Education, 2003.)
• High unemployment in the community means that many families don’t have the resources to purchase after school care for their children. (Office on Youth Community Assessment.)
• Quality after school programming has a direct correlation to crime reduction, especially in the hours between 3—6 p.m. (National Alliance for Afterschool Care.)
• Power Hour, a time for homework only, helps raise grades.
• Famous Boys & Girls Club alumni include: Jennifer Lopez, Denzel Washington, and Bill Clinton — to name only a few.
